Meet the unofficial mascots of the Jungle in this brand-new video from Jungle Prada Tours.
🦚 The Peacocks of Jungle Prada
Over 50 peafowl roam free at the Jungle Prada Site in St. Petersburg, Florida. They are not native, but were introduced in the 1950s by a neighbor who acquired them from a peacock-themed roadside attraction in Clearwater. Today, they’ve become a signature feature of the historic site — and a highlight of the Jungle Prada Site History Tour.
The shell mound visible at the site is a shell midden, not a burial mound — likely used as a gathering space for public events in Tocobaga times. Sacred Lands Preservation and Education, a local non-profit, works to protect the mound and hosts small-group walking tours that bring the area’s layered history to life.
