🌺 Eye on Azaleaville | August 2025

Local news compiled from 100% reliable social media sources.

We regret to inform you that, as usual, absolutely nothing exciting happened last month in Azaleaville. No crimes of note, no scandals and no injuries were reported. Just another nearly perfect month in paradise.

In an effort to justify the existence of this section, we’ve assembled a short list of minor disturbances: one car break-in (nothing stolen), low-flying aircraft that scared a few people and pets, some questionable trash disposal near the neighborhood dumpster, and a growing mosquito problem has been reported in the prestigious Jungle Prada neighborhood.

Please enjoy the slow news cycle.

Truck Break-in on Russell Drive

A neighbor near the elementary school on Russell Drive reports someone rifled through her husband’s truck overnight. Nothing was taken, but everything was tossed around. No damage reported, but it’s a good reminder to lock up and stay alert.

Jungle Prada: Mosquitos Attack in Swarms

Residents on the 1800 block of Country Club Rd N have reported a marked increase in mosquito activity, with significant swarms present throughout the day in both front and back yards. The situation has made outdoor activity difficult and raised concerns about potential health risks associated with mosquito-borne illnesses. Requests for mosquito control treatment have been submitted to Pinellas County, and residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and take appropriate precautions.

Trash Dumped Near Azalea Soccer Fields

An anonymous reader submitted an image of a pile of trash in Azalea Park near the soccer fields. The debris appears to have been tossed over a fence clearly marked with a “No Dumping” sign which, it seems, was enthusiastically ignored.

Unscheduled Military Jet Flyover Causes Terror

Residents across west St. Pete were caught off guard by a pair of low, loud military jets roaring overhead earlier this month. Descriptions ranged from “amazing” to “terrifying,” with several neighbors convinced a crash was imminent. Reports mention F-18s, likely out of MacDill AFB, though no official explanation has been given. Multiple sightings were confirmed over Walter Fuller Park, Azalea Park, Tyrone, and the beaches. Some guessed training exercises or airshow practice; others noted the jets weren’t visible on radar. Whatever they were, they were loud and unforgettable.
